What to Expect at your Appointment
Your treatment begins with a consultation to understand your lifestyle, medical history and any current medications. Having this detailed background is important in order for me to work out the most effective treatment plan and also to ensure that there are no contra-indications for reflexology. Any information remains confidential and your records are stored securely.
The treatment is carried out on a massage table or a recliner chair. You will be asked to remove footwear and socks. You should wear loose fitting clothing to facilitate any work on lower legs. It is advisable not eat a large meal just before your appointment.
The creams and balms I use are made by an Irish based company called Flying Wild. They are formulated using certified organic ingredients and are free from chemicals or preservatives. There is a blend suitable for use during pregnancy and an unscented version for clients with allergies.
Everybody’s experience is unique when receiving reflexology, but some common reactions are:
- entering a deeply relaxed state or falling asleep
- tingling sensations as energy moves through the body
- emotional release
- feeling tenderness in some reflexes on the feet where there is congestion or imbalance in the corresponding part of the body.
The treatment plan will vary from person to person. Some ailments may respond very quickly to reflexology. For chronic conditions however it may be necessary to have 4 to 6 weekly treatments to see an improvement in symptoms. After this only maintenance may be needed so appointments can be less frequent.
